The iPod touch is a beautiful device, but unfortunately Apple restricted a lot of it's potential by locking the firmware. The only way to unlock the full potential of your iPod and install custom applications, ringtones, etc, is to jailbreak iPod touch so as to remove Apple's firmware restrictions. This is 100% safe, and there is no risk of damaging your iPod if you do it properly.

Things Need Prepared:

iPod Touch running 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 firmware
Windows PC or Mac
iPod USB connector cord

Steps to Jailbreak iPod Touch

Step 1. Make sure your iPod is running .3 or .4 firmware, which is the two latest versions. You can see this when you connect your iPod in iTunes. If it is not the newest firmware, upgrade!

Step 2. First, go to website: http://download.ziphone.org/, and download either the Windows or Mac version of the jailbreaking software, depending on your system. When downloading finished, install the software somewhere on your computer. Then go to the folder you unzipped ZiPhone to, and open the bottom file, "ZiPhoneGUI.exe".

Step 3. Make sure your iPod is connected via USB cord, and then hit the "Jailbreak" button on the left side of the interface. Leave your iPod connected and let ZiPhone work it's magic for a couple minutes until it is done.

That's it, your done! Unplug your iPod touch and enjoy your new freedom!

Tip: If this worked, you should consider donating a small sum of money to the maker of ZiPhone to support future releases. If anything goes wrong, or you want to un-jailbreak your iPod, follow steps 1-2 and then click the "Prepare for Upgrade" button, and then use iTunes to restore your iPod's firmware.
